Joan Laporta: Signing Xavi is the best decision that I have made
The president is delighted with the start Xavi has made and is convinced the club can win the title
Joan Laporta is naturally optimistic. Despite assuming the presidency of Barcelona at one of the hardest times in both sporting and economic terms, he has always been positive, filled with hope.
“I am convinced we can win La Liga, we are going to win it,” said the chief on TVE.
“I’ll explain why simply. We arrive at the run-in strongly, with the team functioning at top performance. With a coach who has clear ideas and lets us play our genuine style of football. We have recovered our essence and we have to go for La Liga with optimism and will. It won’t be easy, it’s evident that it’s a big challenge, but I see it as possible.”
Barcelona face Sevilla on Sunday which is their hardest remaining game.
Laporta added: “I’ve come to bring back joy to Barcelona and win titles. I can say with pride that the first we have done and now we have to keep this state of mind.
“Signing (Xavi) as a coach is the best decision I have made since becoming president. It’s evident that I should have done it sooner, but it’s all more complicated than people think. We have recovered our identity thanks to him.”
