Joan Laporta on Gavi's extension: "Today is a historic day"
Laporta has affirmed that the renewal of Gavi is a sign of good things to come in the immediate present and the future
Laporta continues to achieve great things as president of FC Barcelona. After closing a great transfer market, one of the main objectives was Gavi's renewal. And that has now been taken care of.
At the ceremony held at Camp Nou, he thanked everyone for their efforts in extending the young midfielder's contract.
The president began: "Today is a historic day because it represents the present, the immediate present and the future of Barça. This renewal is a paradigm of talent, and effort, of a player who gives his all.... When I was a little boy at Barça they used to say this is a player who is doing his best, and Gavi is the one who is doing his absolute best".
The president also had words of thanks for Ivan de la Peña and his work to bring Gavi to the club, when he was playing for Betis and had many suitors, as he does now.
He also had words for the board of directors and Mateu Alemany, whom he thanked for their efforts and ended with: "We've done it".
