Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman would like to add another midfielder to his squad

Ronald Koeman still wants another midfielder. The Barcelona coach wants a more physical player to add to the options he already has in the middle of the park.

Barça's midfield trio was formed by Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri last season. Koeman wants a different profile of player but he also knows he needs another body because he the season is long and he can't play the same three players all year again.

That's where Renato Sanches comes into the picture.

Barça have been linked with the Lille player frequently this summer. Represented by Jorge Mendes, the Portugal international, who was in the squad for Euro 2020, won the French league last season.

He didn't take off at Bayern Munich but has found his form again at Lille and is ready to take the next step in his career.

The interest is so real in fact that Barca president Joan Laporta and Mendes have recently met with Olivier Letang, Lille's general director, to sound out a deal.

They have discussed whether a loan, a transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy next year would be possible.

For now, Letang has not been willing to let the midfielder leave.

Lille, who beat PSG to the league and then again in the French Super Cup recently, are preparing for the Champions League and want to avoid weakening their team.
