Referee Jesus Gil Manzano has been chosen to referee Atletico Madrid's game against Barcelona next Saturday at the Wanda Metropolitano. He has a history in these type of games.
He was chosen to referee Barca's 1-0 win over Atletico last season at Camp Nou, won by a Lionel Mesi goal. Previously he took charge of the 1-1 draw between these sides in the return leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final in 2016-17. Barca went through and beat Alaves in the final.
His first Atletico vs Barcelona clash took place at the Vicente Calderon, where then-Atletico midfielder Arda Turan threw a boot at an assistant referee. Barca won 3-2.
