Javier Tebas speaks again on Negreira: It's a very serious irregularity

| sport

Javier Tebas has not forgotten about the controversy over the 'Negreira case' as the judge has charged FC Barcelona with bribery. The president of LaLiga appeared at the headquarters of the Federation and the Technical Committee of Referees to give his opinion on some of the controversies affecting the reputation of Spanish football.

On the 'Negreira case', Tebas stated that "I have to see the documentation. Bribery is when a crime is committed with a public official. As a lawyer, I have to study it. "

Although there has been no definitive indictment as of today, the LaLiga president says that "we have to continue investigating to clarify the level of influence in the promotions and relegations and in the appointments. That is what we are working on. The mere fact of trying to influence is already a punishable offence in the criminal sphere. The judge said so in his ruling a few weeks ago. That is already sporting corruption. Paying Negreira from a club is a very serious irregularity. It is a crime if was done to influence".

Will there be a sanction?

Javier Tebas has also explained whether or not the LaLiga body will sanction FC Barcelona. "We don't have competencies to do so, because they happened at an administrative level. I have already explained it. If we had been able to intervene, we would have opened a case. No doubt about it. We have not been able to do so because it is time-barred. We will see what sanction it may have when the criminal proceedings are over," explained the president.

Tebas, however, dares to suggest that there is a real possibility of irregular payments from FC Barcelona: "There are indications of payments that should not have been made and with this there was an attempt to influence refereeing decisions. And the judge's decision would range from a warning to relegation. The matter is close to being cleared up," he explained.
