With the exit door open and Ernesto Valverde no longer fully backing him - despite being his main champion until now - Ivan Rakitic is looking at a future away from Barcelona. The club have put him on sale and the player knows they will not give him a new contract. Rakitic said he would like to stay recently but also said he would look at other offers.
His agent Arturo Canales is testing the market to find an exit route if it is necessary. And in Italy the answer may lie, especially because their new financial laws favour foreign players - Cristiano and De Ligt are both benefitting.
Rakitic is liked by Inter Milan, where Antonio Conte has asked for him. They have a Croatian tradition, with Brozovic, Perisic and Handanovic all there. First contact with Barca has been made by Inter.
