The Croatian says the team has to improve after their run of bad form

Ivan Rakitic spoke to the media ahead of Barcelona's Champions League clash with Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday.

The Croatian midfielder says "the team must improve a lot" and on his own contract situation he added that the president "Bartomeu can call me when he wants to, and we can get a coffee."

"We have a lot of enthusiasm to have a great game and get to six points. We all know what it means to play at Wembley. The recent bad results will not change our confidence. We're annoyed and we want the game to start already," said Rakitic.

“The good thing about football is that every four days you have a new chance. Obviously results haven’t been what we expected and we have to do better.

“We have a great game tomorrow, it’s very important. One or two bad games doesn’t change everything, we still have to do well.

“We have to consider what we have done, we have done things even though we have to improve. Tomorrow is going to be a great game against a great team.

“What we want is to defend the way Barcelona play and that gives us extra motivation.

“We have a lot of respect for Tottenham. We know it will be really hard. They had a bad result in the first game so they will be trying, for sure.”

Rakitic was promised a contract improvement but the president says that will not happen this season.

"I stayed because the biggest thing is defending Barcelona’s badge. The president and the people know me very well, he can call me when he wants and we can have a coffee. I’m not waiting for anything. If they call me great, if not then fine too. I’m very calm, I want to win titles with Barca and the rest will come.”
