Ivan Rakitic named in Champions League Team of the Week

From substitute to being in the Champions League Team of the Week. That’s Ivan Rakitic’s story. The Barcelona midfielder began the game against BATE Borisov on the bench, but came on in the 16th minute due to an injury to Sergi Roberto.

Rakitic scored both goals and was the best player in Luis Enrique’s side as they won 2-0 in Belarus. For that reasons, he has been named by UEFA in their best XI for the third round of group stage fixtures.

Apart from Rakitic, the only other La Liga player named in the side is Valencia forward Sofiane Feghouli. The Algerian scored one of Los Che’s goals in their 2-1 win over Gent.

Paris Saint-Germain, who drew with Real Madrid, and Arsenal, who beat Bayern Munich, are two of the best represented sides in the team:

Petr Cech (Arsenal); Serge Aurier (PSG), Per Mertesacker (Arsenal), Thiago Silva (PSG), Pa Konate (Malmo); Daniele de Rossi (Roma), Ivan Rakitic (Barcelona), Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia); ‘Chicharito’ Hernández (Bayer Leverkusen), Vincent Aboubakar (Porto), Hulk (Zenit).

Finally, Hulk was named as the best player of the week in the Champions League following his spectacular performance in Zenit’s win over Lyon.
