Barça will save €8m per season by offloading the Croatian to Sevilla

After a lot of speculation and rumours over the years, it appears this summer will be the moment Ivan Rakitic finally leaves FC Barcelona. The Croatian midfielder has been an important member of the squad for both Valverde and Setien but, with an overhaul on the cards for the 2020/21 season, it's time for Rakitic to start a new adventure. The midfielder joined Barça six years ago in an €18m deal. Unfortunately it does feel that Rakitic, like many before him, will leave through the back door and not receive the respect and praise his time at Barça deserves.

A 'NEW' BEGINNING

Rakitic has never wanted to leave Spain as his family are settled here. The opportunity to return to Sevilla is one he can't pass up and he's expected to rejoin them in a deal worth somewhere between €5m-10m. Negotiations are currently at a very advanced stage.

Rakitic's wife is from Sevilla and he's never hidden his love and respect for his former club. The 32-year-old will take a 50% pay cut to sign for the Europa League holders and pen a three or four year deal. He is set to earn €3.7m per season and become the highest-paid member of the squad.
