Italian champions Inter Milan could be forced to sell Lautaro Martinez

A storm is predicted in Milan. After winning Serie A for the first time in 11 years, Inter have started to plan for next season.

Like the rest of Europe's top clubs, though, they're in a delicate position financially and could be forced to sell one of their star players.

According to Corriere della Sera, Inter will propose an exemption to their salaries for two months with the aim of reducing the wage bill from 220 million euros to around 180 million euros.

Among other measures, Inter must clean up their accounts by moving on some of the elder statesmen on their team who are on big pay packets.

However, they must also make a big sale. The players with the biggest market are Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni, both young and with the potential to bring in a decent fee.

Barça

Despite the fact Barça are also in a tough moment economically, the new board, led by Joan Laporta, consider it a priority to make a big signing this season to take the team to the next stage of its development, above all in Europe.

After Neymar renewed with Paris Saint-Germain until 2025, Barça must focus on who that could be and Lautaro is a previous target. Despite failing to sign him in 2020 when the pandemic arrived, the club could move again this year given the costs involved in any deal for their other top target, Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

Lautaro's age (23), his nose for goal and a reduced cost in comparison to Haaland could see Barça pursue that avenue.
