'Tuttosport' claims that Antonio Conte is a huge admirer of the Brazilian midfielder

The rumours in Italy continue to suggest that Lautaro Martinez will play for FC Barcelona next season. The latest report from 'Tuttosport' says that Inter could ask for a player in exchange - and it isn't Arturo Vidal.

Antonio Conte is reluctant to let his star striker leave but is open to business if it means he can snatch a midfielder from Barça's squad. Whilst Arturo Vidal has been the most talked about name, it appears the Italian coach would prefer somebody younger instead: Arthur Melo.

With Inter wanting around €150m for Lautaro, it makes sense that Barça would include players to reduce that cost.

Barça have their doubts about Arthur

Two years ago, Barça paid Gremio €31m - plus variables - for Arthur. Since then the midfielder has produced inconsistent performances. From moments of magic where he appeared to be an ideal fit to a midfielder in need of a makeover, we've also witnessed fitness issues limit his influence and ultimately cost him his place in the team.

Barça would prefer to include Vidal in a deal for Lautaro but Inter don't want a stop-gap solution either.

At 23, Arthur makes a lot more sense as a long-term successor to run their midfield. This is in stark contrast to Vidal who will turn 33 by the time next season rolls around.

World Cup in Qatar

It appears any talks for Lautaro are going to take some time to reach an agreement that everyone is happy with.

As for the Argentine striker himself, he's desperate to make the switch to the Camp Nou. If Lautaro and Lionel Messi can strike up a deadly partnership it would be great news for Barça as well as Argentina. The World Cup in Qatar is likely to be Leo's final opportunity to win a major trophy with his country.
