Messi remains three goals ahead of Mbappe, who scored at the weekend, after his strike against Espanyol was ruled an own goal

After the international break, domestic action returned at the weekend and with it, so did the battle for the Golden Boot. As it stands, Messi remains out in front with Mbappe close behind in second.

Messi's goal against Espanyol was largely credited as belonging to the Argentine but not by 'MARCA'. The ruled it as an own goal by Víctor Sánchez.

This means Messi has one goal less in his fight to earn yet another Golden Boot. 'MARCA' are Spanish representatives for the European Sports Media and as such, their decision overrules everyone else's.

According to ESM, Messi is on 30 goals after his second strike against Espanyol was credited to him.

Below Messi is PSG's Kylian Mbappe. The French giants won 1-0 at the weekend and Mbappe was the saviour once again.
