What has happened to Yusuf Demir at Barcelona?
The Austrian forward has not got the minutes it looked like he might and has struggled
Barcleona are enduring a tough season and within the squad there are various cases that help explain it. One of the players who is struggling is Yusuf Demir, who went from being the big hope in pre-season to disappearing from the first team’s dynamic.
Of the 15 games that Barcelona have played this season, Yusuf has only participated in five of them. Of the five, he started against Granada and Cadiz, coming on against Athletic, Levante and Rayo.
In the Champions League he came on for 30 minutes against Bayern Munich. But on none of these occasions has he been a shadow of the player he was in pre-season. That worries Barcelona.
He arrived for Barca B on loan from Rapid Vienna. However Ronald Koeman liked him and called him up to the first team squad ahead of Collado. They gave him a first team number, meaning he cannot play for Barça B.
With Sergi Barjuan’s arrival Demir might have hoped for a chance but instead it was B-teamer Abde who came on and played 10 mins as a sub.
Now Barcelona don’t see Demir’s future that clearly and might not pay the 10m for him permanently that they can.
