De Ligt is interesting a number of Europe's biggest clubs

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City could go toe-to-toe with Barcelona this summer in the transfer market over Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt.

The centre-back has had a fine season with his club and has drawn interest from some of Europe's biggest sides.

Barça have been following the defender for a while and could make a move this summer. A lot will depend on Samuel Umtiti's contract renewal and how things pan out with Sevilla's Clement Lenglet, but De Ligt is a long-term target regardless.

In fact, the English press have reported that Barça sent people to watch him when England played Holland in a friendly matchc in March.

Many clubs are tracking De Ligt and City, according to The Guardian, are among them as they look for a replacement for Vincent Kompany. Despite spending a lot of money on centre-backs since he joined, Guardiola could still spend more.
