Guardiola insists Xavi was misinformed on Man City's Cancelo snub

Xavi has previously said City would not let Cancelo join Barça in January

One of the players Barcelona wanted and still want to reinforce the right-back position is Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese international is owned by Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola does not want him in his squad.

For this reason, he spent the second half of the season on loan at Bayern Munich. In January, Barça also wanted him and Xavi has said several times that City did not want to loan him to the Blaugrana.

On Monday, Guardiola took part in the Legends Trophy golf tournament in Catalonia and before jumping onto the course he spoke to the media and responded to the Barça coach.

"He has been misinformed," Pep said. "He is far from reality. We decided that Joao had to leave and we didn't care where, as if he wanted to go to Manchester United, who are the city rivals.

"I'm not saying Xavi was lied to, but I'm saying he was misinformed. Joao went to Bayern because Bayern wanted him. We didn't get an offer from Barca."

On the possibility that Cancelo could be a Barca player this summer because Bayern will not exercise their option to buy him, Guardiola referred to the clubs and to Tkiki Begiristain, Manchester City's sporting director.

The English club have always maintained that they never vetoed the possibility of Cancelo joining Barça and believe it was the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, who misinformed Xavi and the club.
