The previous three occasions were for Rivaldo, Keita and Lenglet

The move for Antoine Griezmann will see FC Barcelona pay the buyout clause for a player for the fourth time. Since the system was implemented in 1985, the club has only signed three other players via this method: Rivaldo, Keita and Lenglet.

The Brazilian forward was an express signing due to Barça deciding to sign him one day before the league season started. Louis van Gaal pushed hard to land Rivaldo. Barça sent a fax to the RFEF on the 15th August 1997. The cost was around €24m.

11 years left, in 2008, and Barça paid the €14m buyout clause to land Keita from Sevilla. This was after they'd agreed a deal to sign Dani Alves from the same club for €32m.

And just one year ago, Barça paid the €35m buyout clause to bring Clement Lenglet to the club.
