Gremio will not release Luis Suarez for Lionel Messi reunion at Inter Miami

The Brazilian side don't want to lose the striker so close to the closing of the transfer window in the country

After announcing the signings of Lioneo Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami's next target is clear: Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has reportedly asked his current club Gremio Porto Alegre to release him so he can pack his bags and head to Miami.

But, as SPORT have learned that Gremio will not facilitate an early exit from his contract. For now, they are referring to the clause (70 million dollars!) in his deal because, basically, they have no intention of losing their star player at a crucial moment of the season.

Another option would be for Inter Miami to take on a transfer or financial compensation, although an agreement would be very complicated. The Brazilian side, recently promoted to Serie A and immersed in a powerful and exciting project, have just qualified for the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil after beating Bahia in the quarter-finals on penalties.

The Tricolor are also third in the Brasileirao and are fighting for a place in the next Copa Libertadores, for which the top four and the fifth and sixth place finishers have direct access via a preliminary play-off.

The fact is that in the South American country the transfer market closes on August 2, so there are barely 10-12 days left and time is pressing in case there is finally any movement. In any case, in Brazil they insist that Suárez will have to wait until December to be reunited with Messi.
