Granada 1-1 Barcelona: De Jong goal not enough as Gavi sent off

Puertas scored a late equaliser for Granada as Barça missed the chance to move third

Barcelona missed the chance to climb into the top four in LaLiga as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Granada on Saturday.

Antonio Puertas scored a late equaliser for the home side after Gavi had been sent off following Luuk de Jong's opener.

Ahead of the rest of this weekend's games, Barca sit sixth in the standings with 32 points from 20 matches.

Granada, meanwhile, are 12th with 24 points after making it seven games unbeaten in the league.

Barca thought they had taken the lead early on in Granada when De Jong headed in Gavi's cross. However, VAR ruled that Gavi had been offside in the build-up.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen made a smart save from Darwin Machis at the other end but it was a half of few real chances.

The opener eventually arrived in the 57th minute when De Jong did well to head home a brilliant Dani Alves cross.

Barca were unable to build on their lead, though, and there was inevitability about them dropping points when Gavi was sent off with 10 minutes to play for a second booking.

With an additional man, Granada threw everything forward late on and Puertas found the equaliser in the 89th minute.

Barca failed to deal with a corner and Puertas, unmarked, was able to swivel and emphatically fire past Ter Stegen to rescue a point.
