Goodbye to Rakuten, with Barcelona looking for a new sponsor

The Japanese company's contract is ending and they don't want to extend the deal

Rakuten signed a contract with Barcelona in October 2020 to renew a connection that started in 2017. They paid 55m euros in the first four seasons and 30m euros in the last because of Covid. The contract ends at the end of this season.

The Japanese company has decided not to stay linked with Barca, and the club is already looking for a new sponsor for next season. The absence of Lionel Messi will impact what kind of contract they get.

The new board has to multiply their efforts in commercial areas, with the shirt sleeve deal with Beko also ending, and the stadium could use a sponsor or naming rights to power the work the club wants to do there.

Joan Laporta and Co have to work hard to get their revenue back towards the billion they were raking in pre-pandemic.
