FC Barcelona is looking to sign a back-up to Ter Stegen, with Neto looking to leave the club

Barça continues to look for a back-up goalkeeper to replace Neto, who is expected to leave the club during this transfer window. The Brazilian shot-stopper, who asked to leave the club last winter, is looking to get more minutes elsewhere. The club, meanwhile, see this as an opportunity to receive a decent transfer fee and reduce its high wage bill.

Barça are looking for an older, experienced and relatively cheap goalkeeper to play back up to Marc-André Ter Stegen. While the club have not ruled out throwing Iñaki Peña and/or Arnau Tenas into the first team, Ronald Koeman does not want to risk the team's short term success by playing inexperienced goalkeepers. Ter Stegen, who is currently first choice, is not expected to be back in action until November.

One option is Álex Remiro, whose current contract with Real Sociedad is due to expire in 2023. Barça are keeping tabs on the young goalkeeper's contract situation, as they view him as a solid contender for the back-up position.

They are also considering bringing Real Valladolid goalkeeper Jordi Masip back to the club, who joined La Masia at 15 years of age and made his first team debut for Barcelona in 2014. He was unable to nail down a first team spot ahead of Ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo or Jasper Cillessen, and eventually left the club for Real Valladolid in 2017.

Other options include Levante's Aitor Fernández and Ajax's André Onana. The former, aged 30, has gained a reputation as a solid LaLiga goalkeeper due to his performances for Levante over the last three seasons. Onana, meanwhile, who is also a La Masia graduate, has had his ban for breaking anti-doping rules in October 2020 reduced, and will now be able to return to the field on 3 November.

The latter two are less likely due to the transfer fees that Levante and Ajax would demand. Given Barça's current financial situation, their chances of signing either player are small.
