Pablo Sanz, Lopetegui's assistant, spoke with the Barcelona player in December

Gerard Deulofeu had two talks which have changed his mind about staying at Barcelona. One of those was with Ernesto Valverde, who advised him to look for time on the ptich away from Camp Nou, and the second was with Julen Lopetegui's Spain No 2, Pablo Sanz.

The player has played a lot of games for Lopetegui in the U21s for the national team and the coach likes him a lot. Nothing has changed on that front, Sanz told Deulofeu in December. He told him that he needed to be playing though, at Barcelona or at another club, and if he was Lopetegui would not think twice about calling him up for the Russia World Cup.

Pablo Sanz's words helped the player make up his mind - he had previously thought about staying at the club until the end of the season but now is looking for a move.
