The Dutch midfielder signed for the French club despite Barca pushing for him

Georginio Wijnaldum, captain of the Netherlands and PSG’s new signing, spoke about his decision to join the French club and not Barcelona.

“We were negotiating with Barca for weeks,” he admitted. “But they didn’t take the step and PSG appeared and they were quicker and more decisive.”

Wijnaldum recognised that it “was hard to say no to Barca” among other reasons “because they were among the first clubs interested in me”, but he was convinced by PSG’s project.

“It was a hard decision. They are two big clubs and I would have liked to play for both of them, but I’m happy with my decision,” added the former Liverpool player.

Unlike Memphis Depay, it seems, Wijnaldum will appear at the Euros with his future resolved.

“It’s what I wanted. I didn’t want distractions during the tournament. It’s good to start the Euros with the future decided and resolved, you need that to be focused to compete.”
