Frenkie de Jong confirms where his future lies

| sport

Frenkie de Jong has no plans to leave Barça next season. The Dutch midfielder confirmed this in a statement at the Netherlands training camp: "I feel good at Barça, as always. If everything goes according to plan, I will stay at Barcelona next season. You can never say 100% because anything can happen in football, but I guess I'll be at Barcelona next year."

The Dutchman is clearly going from strength to strength since Xavi Hernandez arrived on the bench. Closer to Busquets and closer to the base of the play, Frenkie de Jong has felt much more comfortable over the months and has gained the importance in the team that he was asked for. Now, without Busi, the former Ajax man is set to be even more important next season.

Before going on holiday, Frenkie de Jong will try to lead the Netherlands to the Nations League, which takes place this June. The Netherlands take on Croatia in the semi-finals on Wednesday 14 June and, if they go through, they will face either Spain or Italy in the final. After a very long season, including the World Cup, the Barça midfielder can then take a well-deserved holiday.
