The Dutch midfielder did not want to leave but Barcelona could use the money and Ten Hag wants him

Frenkie de Jong has winked at Manchester United on social media. The Dutchman liked one of the English club’s accounts on Instagram. The post was a video of Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring some goals, a compatriot of De Jong and a former Red Devils’ star.

“Top tier for club and country,” wrote Man United on the post. De Jong’s like arrives at a time where his future at Barcelona has never been more uncertain.

Xavi has players like Pedri, Gavi, Nico, Kessie, Sergi Roberto and youngster Pablo Torre who can play in the interior positions.

United, for their part, want to build their team around De Jong. The English club have promised him he can be the key piece in midfield, something he isn’t in Barcelona, where Busquets owns the holding role.

De Jong, reticent to leave Barcelona, may end up at United if Barcelona do everything they can to force him to accept the transfer. That said, the Catalans don’t want to earn less than 80 million euros for the midfielder.
