The Ajax midfielder revealed that Barcelona are interested in him but that, for now, he needed to concentrate on the Champions League qualifiers

Frenkie de Jong has admitted that Barcelona are considering a move for him in this transfer window. Ajax's young midfielder spoke to the media following his side's 2-0 victory over Sturm Graz in the first leg of their Champions League second round qualifying match.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months and, in a conversation with 'Voetbal International', admitted that the interest in him is real.

"Simply speaking I'm an Ajax player so I can't say much about that (Barça interest) at the moment out of respect for them," explained De Jong. "Of course there's interest in me, everybody knows that. But as I said, I'm an Ajax player right now."

De Jong knows that he's been on the frontpages of many Spanish newspapers in recent weeks and what's being said about him. "I noticed it. At the beginning it was nice, but now it doesn't interest me. It's fun to see yourself in Spanish newspapers but it doesn't interest me now, I want to be 100% focused on my team." Ajax are trying to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

De Jong was also asked about Xavi Hernandez's comments about him, where the Barça legend said he was impressed with the midfielder's ability. "It was nice to read that. It's always nice when a player such as Xavi says those things."
