The Serbian manager has passed away at the age of 71, Atletico announced

Radomir Antic, the legendary former Atletico Madrid coach who also managed Real Madrid and Barcelona, passed away on Monday aged 71.

"The Atletico Madrid family is mourning the passing of Radomir Antic, one of our legendary coaches," a statement from Los Rojiblancos read. "You will forever live in our hearts. Rest in peace.

"He is one of the greatest legends that has sat on our bench. He coaches the team for five seasons, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey, the brain behind the double in the 1995/96 season."

After an extensive career as a footballer, Antic took his first coaching job at Partizan Belgrade in 1985. His time in Spain began with Real Zaragoza before he moved to Real Madrid for the 1990/91 season.

He took on a struggling side at the Santiago Bernabeu and led Los Blancos to third place. In the following season, despite being top of the league, he was sacked for the team's supposedly poor performances.

Antic's next step was with Real Oviedo and in 1995 he arrived at Atletico, where he won a historic double.

Barça memories

Barça memories After Atletico, he returned to Oviedo and in January of 2003 he joined Barça, who were threatened with the real possibility of missing out on European football. The Serbian managed to gain a UEFA Cup place and, following elections won by Joan Laporta, was replaced by Frank Rijkaard in the summer.

Later he had spells with Celta, the Serbian national team and ended his career spending time in China.
