Victor Font says he will buy everyone's season tickets if Xavi doesn't return to the club under him

Víctor Font, one of the hopefuls to be the new Barcelona president, has made a bold promise to pay for supporters' season tickets if Xavi Hernandez doesn't return under him.

"If I win the elections and Xavi doesn't come, I commit to paying for every socio's season ticket out of my own pocket," he told La Sotana.

Xavi's role in the election has taken on increased importance in recent days. The former Barça midfielder, now coaching in Qatar, has not officially endorsed any of the candidates, although he has spoken about his good relationship with Font.

However, he also said that Joan Laporta, who is also running for the presidency, is the best president he had during his time at Camp Nou.

Xavi Hernandez's decision not to side with Font 100 percent has slightly weakened his campaign, given a large part of his project is based on the return of the former Spain international in a coaching capacity eventually.

Previously, speaking to Copa, Font has made it clear Xavi will have a key role in getting Lionel Messi to stay at the club.

"The best person to convince Messi is Xavi," he said. "He knows him really well. Leo's trusts Xavi's ability, I am aware of that. Xavi will be very important in the process. Messi is irreplaceable."
