FIFA's new rule that could make Erling Haaland deal cheaper

The Norwegian striker is on the menu for Laporta and Barcelona

Agents have become owners of the transfer window but FIFA are taking the situation seriously. They are trying to impose a new rule from July 1 that stops agents, lawyers, family members and representatives from making too much commission on the deals. It will make transfers like that of Erling Haaland much cheaper, putting super agents like Mino Raiola under the cosh.

They think the rule has no legal basis and are trying to protest against it.

Currently there’s no regulations for what an agent can charge in terms of commission, although FIFA recommends 3 per cent as a maximum. Since 2015 FIFA has lost control of them.

With the new rule, commissions should not exceed six per cent of the player’s contract, divided between 3 per cent paid by the club and 3 per cent by the player. Another option is that the agent takes 10 per cent of the fee, which would be more profitable.

If the new rule comes in, the Haaland deal which could cost 170m might only be 82 and Raiola would go from getting 50m to 7.5m.
