The Spanish forward put Atletico Madrid to the sword in style as Brugge beat them 2-0

When Ferran Jutgla signed for Brugge on June 8, few imagined we would be having this conversation now. The cash was welcome for Barca, and he seemed a good option. Five million with 10 per cent of a future sale seemed good. No rebuy or first option, no problem.

Some did wonder if he deserved to stay as a second or third option up front, but at the time Aubameyang seemed like he would be staying and the attack was overpopulated.

But Jutgla, who three years ago was playing for UE Sant Andreu in the fourth tier, including against Atletico in the Copa del Rey, is flying now.

He shone against Atletico, scoring and setting up another. His goal was pure striking instinct. He was the man of the match, and he spoke to COPE after the game.

“I am happy with my individual performance, we want to do good things. The World Cup? I’m focused on my day to day. I feel valued here. This month and a half before the World Cup with be very important.”

He has eight goals and five assists in 14 games with Brugge. It’s his first professional contract, having played only for Espanyol B and Barca B officially, even though he featured in the first team.
