The ex-Man Utd defender remembers how tough it was to play against the midfielder

The former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says Barcelona's Sergio Busquets was so good he made him feel like a conference player (the fifth tier of English football).

Ferdinand has since retired but remembers coming up against Busquets in the final of the 2011 Champions League, when Barça beat United 3-1.

“It was here at Wembley and we got abused by Barcelona in that game,” Ferdinand told the BBC.

“Your confidence is low anyway and you are trying to get the ball back off him from a throw-in ‘give me the ball, give me the ball’.

“And he says ‘no, Ferdinand, Vidic… boom, boom, boom’. I felt like a conference player."

Ferdinand was speaking as Spain lost to Italy in the semifinal of Euro 2020, but the ex-England international was still impressed with Busquets' performance,

“He has bossed this game and he is a fabulous player to watch," Ferdinand added.
