FC Barcelona not ready to throw in the towel in their fight for Jules Koundé just yet

| sport

The club concedes that "it is very difficult", but are determined to fight until the end, with Iñigo Martínez lined up as the alternative if they fail to sign the French international

Jules Koundé wants to play for Barça, there is no doubt about that. It is the only reason he continues resisting the pressure of Chelsea and Sevilla to close his transfer with the London team. Barça on their end have not yet made any formal offer to Sevilla, but are set to be making one very soon. The club admits that "it is very difficult", but still refuse to throw in the towel.

The player has kept Barça as his first option, and awaiting the club's move for him. If no such initiative comes from Barça, it will likely be impossible to further stall his move to Chelsea. Koundé has done his part on holding out, but he can not wait forever, and so the ball is now in FC Barcelona's court.

The French international is Xavi's first choice and the club want to satisfy their coach. They have already done so with Lewandowski and Raphinha, examples that Barça's offices cite as encouragement for the signing of Jules Koundé as well. The option of Iñigo Martínez, with whom the Blaugrana club has a total agreement, is also being discussed, but only as an alternative to Koundé.
