Christensen, Lewandowski, Raphinha and Kessie are all likely to start in the Gamper tie against Pumas

In the era before there were summer tours around the world and so many friendlies before the start of the championship, it was the summer tournaments which were the occasion to first see a club's new signings. FC Barcelona fans have always waited in excitement for the Gamper in August, whether to witness the new faces of the team or to repeat the classic "aquest any sí" with the local neighbourhood.

Times have changed of course. This year's edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy will be played on Sunday against Pumas, but Barça fans have already seen the debut of four of the five signings made this summer during the American tour. But even so, it is likely that Xavi will take into account that fans want to see their new stars in action. Of the five signings so far, four have a good chance of starting the game at the Gamper.

Christensen has been one of the pleasant surprises of the summer and could very well begin the season playing as a starter in the defence. He has played in the four friendlies in the United States and aims to make his debut in an official match against Rayo Vallecano on the first day of La Liga. Lewandowski and Raphinha are also sure to start at the Gamper because they are easily the two most exciting signings of Barça this time. The Brazilian, less famous than his polish counterpart, has surprised fans with his great quality and his good touch on the tour so far, and Lewandowski awaits his home debut. The other signing who could be a starter is Kessie.

Koundé has been the last to arrive and has only been training with the squad for a short period. In addition, during the summer he has been recovering from an operation. He will probably get some minutes against Pumas but Xavi would not risk him as he will be a key player during the official campaign. Another player likely to feature is Pablo Torre, who is training in the first team although he will play with the reserve team when Xavi deems it appropriate. The coach knows that the Cantabrian is a player who excites the fans because they see him as the new Pedri.
