The fans respond to Xavi's call and come in droves
The stadium was twice as full as it was for the previous home game against Alaves
The Xavi effect is already notable in the stands. 74,418 fans attended his debut as coach against Espanyol, the second biggest home attendance of the season, behind only the Clasico. 86,422 came to the game against Real Madrid. The last Barca home game against Alaves saw only 37,378 attend, so this was almost double.
Beyond the number, their attitude was notable. During the season fans have been patient and supported the team, but this time around there was excitement, hope and a great will for things to go well for Xavi Hernandez.
In the sixth minute, a ‘Xavi’ chant emerged - the time chosen for his shirt number at the club. The fans are on board and that’s important to keep the team going.
