False alarm with Pedri: Barcelona midfielder's injury not as bad as feared

He won't need surgery and a decision must now be made on his role with Spain next month

On May 19, with the league already won, Barcelona offered a brief medical statement stating that Pedri had "some discomfort in his right leg" without offering any further details or recovery time.

The lack of detailed information has led to all kinds of speculation in recent days. There was even a rumour of the threat of surgery.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Pedri is following a specific physical strengthening and prevention plan to finish the season without the slightest discomfort.

The Spanish Federation (RFEF) are aware of his situation and Luis de la Fuente must decide whether to call him up for the UEFA Nations League in mid-June.

Before that, the RFEF will sound out the player to see how he is and if he is ready. If he is not 100 percent fit, he will not play for the national team this summer.

Pedri is an essential player for De la Fuente and already missed the first games under the new coach. His absence would be a blow as he is the cornerstone of La Roja.

However, all parties agree that above all is his health and the long career ahead of him that he has left with Barça and the national team.
