Exclusive: Barcelona hold first renewal meeting with Dembélé's agent
The Catalan club want to extend the French forward's deal at Camp Nou
Barcelona have started to discuss the renewal of Ousmane Dembélé's contract. As SPORT has learned from club sources, the player's agent, Moussa Sissoko, met yesterday in Barcelona with Mateu Alemany, Barça's director of football.
It was only the first contact, but the sensations after the meeting were positive. Alemany conveyed to Dembélé's representative the club's desire to extend the contract that both parties signed last summer, which runs until June 30, 2024.
Alemany also informed Sissoko of Xavi's desire to continue to count on Dembélé, a player who is a key player for the Barça coach due to his brilliant wing play.
The clause
Barça need to renew Dembélé this summer to avoid what happened with his previous contract, when he entered his final year without an agreement and even became a free agent for a few days. In addition, Dembélé's termination clause is reduced to €50m this summer and the Frenchman is expected to have significant offers.
Both parties were very satisfied after this first contact, with further meetings scheduled in the coming weeks.
