The German says it would have been easier to win the Champions League with Barça

Former Germany and Bayern Munich right-back Philipp Lahm, who had an excellent relationship with Pep Guardiola as a player, says that Barcelona "wanted him" in his playing days.

Lahm says "it would have been easier to win the Champions League [with Barça] than with Bayern" in comments to German newspaper Bild.

The defender, who moved into midfield under Guardiola, will be remembered not just for his football ability, but also for the respect and loyalty he showed to his club.

Between 2002 and 2017, he stayed with Bayern Munich save a loan spell with Stuttgart. In addition, he came through the club's academy, which he joined in 1995.

When Barça were interested in him "they had an incredibly good team," so it would have been easier to win the Champions League,

However, he says he wanted to win Europe's top pot "with the people that I knew, with those that I had played with for so many years."

Lahm was finally part of a Champions League winning team when Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund in the final in 2013.
