Everyone waiting on Lionel Messi fitness ahead of final
The Argentine did not feature against Real Sociedad and we'll have to see about Sunday
Lionel Messi appeared dressed in shorts at the Nuevo Arcangel for Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup win over Real Sociedad but he did not make it onto the pitch. The club have not published a medical statement but it’s clear he was not in condition to play after suffering an injury in his leg against Granada and asking to go off.
Koeman said that he had recovered before the Real Sociedad game, but he did not feature, watching on from the sidelines and supporting the team animatedly.
Now we are waiting to see if he will be in good shape for the final on Sunday. The information coming out of Barca is not optimistic. In the dressing room they think it’s unlikely he will be ready for the final on Sunday.
It would be a big setback for Koeman not to have him after a couple of top notch performances that saw him get back to his best level.
Barca need Messi. They made it through but only on penalties, missing the X factor he brings.
