The defender was delighted to beat Real Madrid to the Supercopa on Sunday

Barcelona's 3-1 victory against Real Madrid in the 2023 Spanish Supercopa final has meant a breath of fresh air for Xavi Hernández's squad and his project led by a new generation of players -- and the always euphoric Ronald Araujo showed as much on Sunday.

The Uruguayan central defender is a regular in the middle of any celebrations and it was again the case this time after the resounding victory against Madrid. Araujo proclaimed "The new era beings" in a video published by the club in the tunnel after the title celebration.

Araujo completed 90 minutes in the Clasico against Los Blancos and seems to have returned to his best level after the injury that kept him off the pitch for three months.

Speaking to reporters, he added: "We deserved it. We've been working really hard, the team is together and united and we are a family. I think it's especially beautiful because it's the start of a new era.

"It means a lot because it gives us a boost for what is to come, too. There's a new generation of players and I am certain a lot of trophies will come.

"I am so happy. I was crying tears of joy because it's been a really difficult time with the injury, missing the World Cup. This trophy is compensation for my family, for the doctors."
