Estadio de La Cerámica replaces El Madrigal at Villarreal

Villarreal have changed the name of their stadium and will debut the new name against Barça

Villarreal are beginning a new era, coinciding with Sunday's game against FC Barcelona. The game will not take place at El Madrigal. The club organised a spectacular presentation two hours before the game to rename their stadium the Estadio de La Ceramica, in recognition to the leading industry in the city.

"We are deciding on a new name and it will be something related to the ceramics and porcelain industry, so it could well be  the Estadio de la Ceramica," president Fernando Roig first revealed in November. He also said that the club were considering the English equivalent (The Ceramics Stadium).

The renaming was marked by an event at the stadium on Sunday. First of all, the history of the club was reviewed and the success it has achieved in the last 20 years since the arrival of Roig to the presidency. The first promotion to La Liga and competing in Europe were the highlights, although the moment of greatest expectation came when the name was due to be announced officially.

On a yellow background, typical of the colors of the club, the name Estadio de La Ceramica was revealed to a great reception. Later it changed colours several times, until dividing between between yellow and azulgrana, in recognition to Barça's visit. The Catalan club's vice-president Jordi Mestre and the directors Enrique Tombas and Xavier Vilajoana accompanied Roig at the event.
