Espanyol 2-2 Barcelona: Super Luuk saves Xavi in the Catalan derby

The Dutch striker came off the bench to earn Barça a point at the RCDE Stadium

Luuk de Jong scored a stoppage-time winner to spare Barcelona's blushes in Sunday's derby against Espanyol at RCDE Stadium.

Pedri had opened the scoring inside 90 seconds but strikes from Sergi Darder and Raul de Tomas has the home side on track for a first league win over Barca since 2009.

However, substitute De Jong headed in Adama Traore's cross deep into stoppage time to earn a point for Xavi's side after Gerard Pique and Nico Melamed had been sent off.

It's a point that keeps Barca in the top four courtesy of their better goal difference over Atletico Madrid, who are level with them on 39 points.

Pedri had handed Barca a dream start, turning home Jordi Alba's cross, but Barca could not build on their lead, with Ferran Torres missing a couple of headers.

They were made to pay just before the break when Darder curled home expertly from the edge of the box.

Barca lost Ronald Araujo to injury at half-time, Eric Garcia replacing him and going on to have 45 minutes to forget.

However, before Garcia played De Tomas onside, Barca had a second goal ruled out for offside. Gavi did well inside the box but VAR ruled that Frenkie de Jong was offside in the build-up.

De Tomas then fired Espanyol ahead and they looked set to beat Barça at the RCDE Stadium for the first time ever in LaLiga.

With time ticking down, Xavi brought Ousmane Dembele on for his first appearance in a month and Pique and Melamed were both shown reds as tempers flared.

And then, from nowhere, De Jong rose highest to brilliantly head home Adama's cross.
