The Asturian has kept Barca top of the table for many weeks, joining the top six Barca coaches

Since Ernesto Valverde took charge of Barcelona, the team has virtually never been outside the top one in La Liga. His stats have been spectacular and have let him join the top six coaches who have spent the most weeks as leaders at Camp Nou.

Valverde joins Dutchmen Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff and Frank Rijkaard, Englishman Terry Venables and the Catalan Pep Guardiola.

Actually, none of them have managed the same numerical brilliance as Valverde. They have led La Liga for 90.7 per cent of games they have played under the former Bilbao boss.

The closest is Pep Guardiola, who has led the table in 57.2 per cent of his Liga games.

After beating Rayo, Valverde spent his 59th week as leader of the division. That puts him fifth, with Cruyff underneath him now - curiously he was only capable of leading the league in 19.6 per cent of his matches (300 in total), over eight campaigns. Despite that low percentage he won four league titles.
