The Barça coach says the Ballon d'Or does not bother him
He is certain that Lionel Messi is the world's greatest player
Ernesto Valverde, the Barcelona manager, has taken importance away from the fact that Lionel Messi is not the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or this year.
"We all know who is the best player in the world," he said in his pre-Olympiakos press conference. "This subject about giving the Ballon d’Or to one player or another doesn’t worry me."
The Barça coach was again asked about the Ballon d'Or, though, and the fact Cristiano Ronaldo could match Messi's five Ballon d'Ors.
"I've responded to that before -- I am not focused on other players," he said. "You don’t need a Ballon d’Or more, less, a gold, a silver or a bronze to know that Messi’s the best in the world."
The list of 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or was recently revealed. It included two Barça players (Messi and Luis Suarez) and seven from Real Madrid (Modric, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Kroos, Isco, Benzema and Ronaldo).
