The new Barcelona coach is speaking to Robert Fernandez about signings and decisions

He is crucial for the planning of the new sporting project and has the final say

Ernesto Valverde, unless any unresolvable problems arise, will be Barcelona’s new coach on May 29. The deal is in place and the former Blaugrana player has started to work with the club’s sporting director to think about the planning for next season.

Valverde will have the final word on ins and outs despite a lot of the work being done by Robert Fernandez.

The Athletic Bilbao coach listened to Barcelona through his agents, before taking the decision to leave his club and negotiate with the Blaugrana.

Valverde didn’t want to start working directly with Barcelona until the Basque club’s season finished. He didn’t want any bad interpretations or to leave via the back door.

It is likely that this week he will have a press conference with his president, Josu Urrutia, to explain the reasons he is leaving at the end of his contract. But he will not speak about his future.

That will only be done by Barcelona. They will announce the deal on May 29.

Valverde is taking advantage of this time to plan. He has to decide which players he wants to loan out, if they want to buy anyone back like Deulofeu, and who should leave. He will also consider which B-team players he wants in his squad for the pre-season.

Most importantly, the signings. There is a consensus that the team is missing a right-back, needs a complete midfielder, a winger and maybe a left footed centre-back who can also play at left-back.
