Ernesto Valverde: I did not triumph as a player at Barcelona
The new coach gave an interview to the club media
He admitted that his playing days were a bit disappointing at the Camp Nou
Barcelona’s new coach Ernesto Valverde recognised that as a player he was not successful at the club. Valverde spoke to the club’s media channels in an interview.
“I was not a great signing for Barcelona,” he said. “I recognise that. I arrived with a knee injury, I had to have an operation, then I had another operation and the year after I went to Athletic Club. I didn’t triumph here as a player. That’s a reality.
“Now I’m older, time has passed, I have a different perspective. There’s a demand at a club like Barcelona, a club like this. What I don’t know I will learn and I hope my era as a coach is better than that as a a player.”
Valverde also spoke about his style of working. “There are things that the coach wants to be reflected in the team. What I want is that the spirit of the team catches the fans and the fans identify with it. I want an intense team, who can carry the weight of the play. However there’s a lot of things this team already has.”
