Ernesto Valverde: Cristiano leaving is like Iniesta leaving
The Barcelona coach compared the two players' respective departures
Ernesto Valverde spoke to the media for the first time since last season. Valverde held a press conerence on Friday night (Spanish time) in Los Angeles ahead of the friendly game against Tottenham.
The coach spoke on various topics, including the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward left Real Madrid for Juventus in a surprising deal.
"We don't know in what way it will debilitate Real Madrid but he is a player who gave a lot to the club and we have to recognise everything he has done."
Barcelona have suffered too, with legend Andres Iniesta heading to Japan.
"Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Madrid is as important as Andres leaving for us," added Valverde. "Julen (Lopetegui) will try to make it so Ronaldo's absence is noticed as little as possible."
