The defender has played in the Euros and will now take part in the Olympics

Barcelona kick off preseason on Wednesday against Nastic de Tarragona. However, they do so with the majority of their squad still on holiday after their involvement at Euro 2020 and the Copa America.

Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong, Antoine Griezmann and Clement Lenglet all returned to training on Tuesday after a last 16 elimination at the Euros but won't feature against Nastic.

Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Martin Braithwaite, beaten in the semifinals with their respective countries, will arrive next week, just before travelling to Germany.

Next to arrive will be Lionel Messi, Emerson Royal and Sergio Aguero, who are all due back in the first week of August after reaching the final of the Copa America.

That then leaves the three players currently with the Spain Olympic squad in Japan, Pedri, Oscar Mingueza and Eric Garcia. The latter will be the only player not to have a holiday this summer.

Barça feel that due to his lack of minutes with Manchester City last season, the centre-back is not physcially worn out and can handle the Euros, Olympics and then going straight into the season with Barça.

Mingueza will also join up with the squad straight after the Olympics as he had some time off while the Euros were on having been involved with Spain's U21s previously.

Finally, Pedri will get some time off. Barça are worried about his accumulation of minutes this season. Once Spain are out, he will get 10 days off before joining Ronald Koeman's squad.
