Eric Garcia tells Barcelona coach Xavi he would like to go out on loan

The defender is keen to get regular first-team football this season

Eric García's future is attracting a lot of attention at the end of the transfer window. The Barcelona centre-back is not playing a leading role and, given this situation, wants to go out on loan in search of playing time. SPORT have learned that the defender has spoken to coach Xavi Hernandez in the last few hours to tell him of his intention to move. At least for one season.

The ball is now in Barça's court. As revealed by Cadena SER journalist Nil Solà, Girona is the team that most seduces Eric. He is motivated by the option of joining Míchel's team, but as of today there are still two aspects that stop the operation. On the one hand, a sporting issue: Xavi believes that over the course of the season, he will be useful.

On the other, the economic aspect: relations between clubs are not the best after the signing of Oriol Romeu and, in addition, Girona could only afford a loan deal in which Barça would pay a large part of the player's salary. Barça know that giving the OK to the deal would hardly generate any 'fair play' for them, as they understand that if they accept it would be mainly to do a favour to the player, whose attitude has always been impeccable.

With three days to go until the window closes, the pressure exerted by Eric and his agent, Iván de la Peña, could be key to unblocking the operation. According to SER, Girona are close to selling Santi Bueno to the Premier League for more than 15 million euros. That influx of money could encourage Barça to ask for some financial consideration for Eric. In addition, Betis, who are also looking for a centre-back, have the player on their agenda.

The poker game is on but the Barça defender has taken the most important step: meeting with Xavi to make it clear that his desire is to leave to have more minutes.
