The president of Atlético de Madrid is staying out of the French striker's controversy.

Amid the controversy over the contractual and sporting situation of Antoine Griezmann, the president of Atlético de Madrid has given an interview to the newspaper 'AS' to analyse the team's situation and to talk about the role that the French striker is playing in his second season on loan at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"Antoine is a great player and I am very happy that he is with us. He is a great person and I have a magnificent relationship with him. I can only tell you that he is a great player and he is with us. I never get involved in line-up issues or these kinds of issues," Cerezo explained in the interview.

Cholo Simeone has not put him in the starting eleven in any of Atlético de Madrid's four La Liga games to date. Against Getafe, Villarreal, Valencia and Real Sociedad, the Frenchman came on after the 60th minute.

These matches hence do not count towards the minimum number of games he needs to play to trigger the obligatory buyout clause. He is required to play a minimum of 45 minutes per game.

In this 'war' between Atlético de Madrid and Barça, the player's representative is already looking for options to resolve the conflict, such as a reduction in the purchase price or a definitive sale this year.
