The Rojiblanco will take the sum out of Griezmann's salary

Atletico Madrid must pay Barcelona 20 million euros as compensation for Antoine Griezmann's U-turn. After confirming the France forward's contract renewal with the club, the Rojiblanco must now dish out cash to the La Liga champions, according to OKDIARIO director Eduardo Inda on the television show 'El Chiringuito'.

According to Inda, this was one of the conditions Griezmann put forward before signing his new terms. If he stayed at Atletico, the Madrid-based club would have to pay 20 million to Barça as a penalty for him breaking the pre-contract agreement he had with the Catalan club.

Inda said: "I've been told that Atletico are going to have to pay this amount, which in the current market isn't much, but for a normal person, it's savage."

The journalist also explained that Atletico will take the fee out of Griezmann's new deal. Therefore, instead of getting the 23 million annually agreed, he will receive 19 million per year over five years -- Atletico will take back four million each season.
