Diego Godin: I admire Puyol's nobility in defence

Diego Godin, a new Inter Milan signing this season, praised former Barcelona defender and captain Carles Puyol.

“I liked Puyol a lot when he was at Barcelona. I admired his competitiveness and his strength to play the same way in all (types of) game.

“And that nobility in defence, that’s something he maintained for so many years and turned him into one of the top defenders in history.”

Godin meets again with Barcelona on Wednesday in the Champions League group stage.

He also praised Uruguayan compatriot Diego Lugano. “He was reference point for me and after all, we were national team-mates.”

Godin wants to go as far as possible in the competition in which he came close twice but never could win with Atletico.

“I’ve learned that to win important trophies you need a team, you need to know what the word team means.”
